The Coach Cassie Crossbody 19 has been on my radar for a couple years, but I never hurried to buy it, partially because it is a more expensive item and partially because, let’s be real, no one needs another purse. Then last month, I saw the slightly larger Cassie Crossbody in Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. Though the sale price was tempting, I preferred the smaller dimensions of the Cassie 19. And so the bag returned to my consciousness.
This bag appeals to me because of its simple, timeless design with the clean lines, classic Coach turn lock closure, and tasteful hardware. It also stands out in that it comes with three straps: a top handle, an adjustable crossbody strap, and a weighty chain. All the options are detachable, allowing them to be mixed and matched for a customized carry and look. The bag offers a lot in terms of organization as well; there is an external slip pocket on the back, three internal compartments, and an interior zip pocket.
I bought the Cassie 19 in the Chalk color. I tend to shy away from light shades, as they are higher maintenance, but I think the ivory is very pretty and would diversify my bag options. Because this purse was one of the more expensive fashion items I’ve considered, and because I knew buying it new may discourage me from actually using it for fear of dirtying its pristine exterior, I decided to purchase it used. I spent a little time researching Poshmark processes and etiquette, stalking listings for common questions and selling prices, and making a couple offers before one was accepted. The bag shipped quickly and arrived with dust bag, care card, all three straps, and even a sweet thank you note from the seller. I think it’s in quite good condition, with just one scuff on a bottom corner that was disclosed in the listing. Maybe one day I’ll get around to covering it with leather paint.
I’ve really enjoyed wearing this bag so far. It’s compact but fits what I need, the turn lock is smooth and not too finnicky to use, and it goes with almost everything. I like to wear my bags crossbody, but I will try adding the top handle to see if that will improve maneuverability; when I need to move it around, it’s annoying to not have anything other than the body of the bag to grasp. And it might be fun to attach the chain strap as an edgy accessory like in the top photo. All in all, it feels good to give this Cassie 19 a new home, and I look forward to using it for years to come.
